I do find Technorati's WTF
utility to be, well, useful. Looking at the popular searches
, I often have no idea what they're about. It takes too long to wade through all of the blog posts from a search to find out what the topic means. Without WTF, I don't think I'd take the time to find out.
The other thing that's interesting is that the popular searches often seem to pertain to 3 categories: celebrities (famous people or some sex scandal), technology (web 2.0 sites in particular), and politics. For example, here are the current popular searches, broken down into those categories:
- Celebrities - antonella barba, britney spears, oscars, paris hilton, tammy nyp
- Technology - 11870, bebo, myspace, ning, studivz, web 2.0, windows vista, youtube
- Politics - al gore, conservapedia
Personally, I'd like to skip the Celebrity and Politics searches. I'd like a utility that showed me popular searches from the Technology category only. Hmm, that would be a good Technorati mashup. BTW, notice that the above tags aren't actually Technorati Tags. Each is a TagSummary
, built with the free TagBuildr tool
. Here's the FAQ
. Try it anywhere you'd use Technorati Tags.
